All structural stormwater practices require maintenance to maintain their desired operational effectiveness. The term operation and maintenance (O&M) is typically used to refer to post-construction operation of a stormwater practice. Without maintenance, stormwater best practices may become overloaded with pollutants (particularly trash and sediment), compacted, experience shifts in vegetation, and unsightly. These can reduce the effectiveness of the practice.
