MPCA stormwater modeling tools

The stormwater modeling tools and calculators listed below were developed by MPCA. These tools are discussed in detail in the section of the manual.

MIDS Calculator

The MIDS Calculator was developed by Barr engineering for the MPCA as an Excel-based stormwater quality tool to predict the annual pollutant removal performance of low impact development (LID) BMPs. The calculator will compute the volume reduction associated with infiltration practices plus the TSS and TP reductions for both LID and traditional BMPs, including permeable pavements, green roofs, bioretention, bioretention with underdrain (biofiltration), infiltration basin, tree trench, tree trench with underdrain, swale side slope, swale channels, swales with underdrains, wet swale, cistern/reuse, sand filter, constructed wetland and constructed stormwater pond.

The MPCA Simple Estimator

The MPCA Simple Estimator is a spreadsheet tool that calculates pollutant loading and load reductions associated with stormwater best management practices (BMPs). The spreadsheet utilizes the Simple Method. It was developed by MPCA primarily as a tool for estimating wasteload allocation reductions for TMDLs.

Street Sweeping Phosphorus Crediting Calculator

The Street Sweeping Calculator is an Excel workbook developed by Tetra Tech for MPCA based research and guidance compiled by the University of Minnesota and evaluations of Program for Predicting Pollution Particle Passage through Pits, Puddles, and Ponds (P8) urban catchment model results conducted by Tetra Tech using the same street sweeping data collected by the University of Minnesota. The Calculator has four tabs, two of which are informational (Read Me and Methodology), and two of which are for data entry and output (Calculator) and tracking results (Tracking).
