This page is currently undergoing revision.
Organization of content in this manual is based largely on preceding versions of the Minnesota Stormwater Manual. Some changes have been unavoidable, however, since the new hosting version,
To help users find frequently accessed content, we have included quick links.
Differences between the Manual wiki version and this website
| Category/Item | Differences between the wiki (v3.0) and this website (v4.0) |
|---|---|
| General organization of topics | Organization of topics in version 4.0 of the manual is based largely on the original, print version of the manual with some variation where topics have been added or significantly expanded. |
| Manual table of contents |
The wiki provided more than one content organization guide including a revised table of contents (2023), an original table, and a topic (category) index. Some navigation menus in version 4.0 are still under construction. For this reason, we have not yet published a comprehensive table of contents for version 4.0. In the future, we may build taxonomies for manual content to facilitate searching for categories or types of content found in the Manual. |
| Technical content | All technical content from the wiki was transferred to the new manual website; however, some content is displayed differently in version 4.0. (See next two items). |
|
Pages (articles) in that were very long in the wiki have sometime been divided into 2 or more individual pages. Typically, these are linked by the side bar navigation menu under a common topic and/or through hyperlinks on each page. For example, the page "Better site design' was divided into 5 separate pages with the introductory material on the landing page (Better Site Design (BSD)), and subtopics moved to linked child pages.
|
|
| Content from some very short pages was combined with content on other pages. | |
|
Some duplicate content was deleted. For example, several pages in the wiki contained content from 2 or more related pages combined on a single page (see example below). Because shorter pages are easier to view and can be grouped under navigation menus on this website, individual pages were kept and pages with combined content were archived.

| Important terminology |
Important terminology used in the wiki to distinguish items pertaining to permit compliance from recommendations has been maintained throughout this website.
|
| Tables |
The wiki included many sortable tables that were managed centrally and transcluded (embedded) on one or more pages. These tables could be viewed on a standalone page via a hyperlink. In this version of the Manual, table are not sortable. We may be able to add this feature in the future, but it is not high priority. We have added downloadable, Excel versions for many of these tables, but most can only be viewed as static tables on pages where they are embedded. This manual still contains many pages feature a table that is embedded elsewhere in the manual. We intent to maintain those that are frequently used. Some tables are viewable only on the pages where they are embedded. |
| Page layout |
This wiki took advantage of side bar placements or grid arrangements to organize some content horizontally. For example, tables, images, or cautions were sometimes displayed along the right-hand side of the page, or related images were displayed in a horizontal row across the page. To facilitate website accessibility, we have reduced the amount of content that is displayed in a sidebar placement of grid arrangement. This means that some pages appear longer within this website. |
| Page content menu | Many pages in the wiki featured a dropdown Page Content menu with hyperlinks to content section on the page. |
| Alert boxes | We have maintained many of the alert boxes used in the wiki, but not the color coding that was used to distinguish alert box types. |
| Page icons | Due to page formatting constraints, we have eliminated many of the icons that were used in the wiki to indicate the page type or status. |
| Downloadable pdf versions of individual pages | We no longer feature a downloadable, pdf version of individual pages. |
